Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) is honored to be named the ENR Southeast 2024 Design Firm of the Year. This recognition follows a year marked by substantial growth through revenue, acquisitions, procurement of some of the firm’s largest contracts to date, and expanding the firm’s footprint, all while maintaining a high caliber of work and commitment to feeling local in the communities they serve.
Engineering News-Record (ENR), a benchmark publication for the architecture, engineering and construction industry, bestows the honor of Design Firm of the Year upon engineering and architecture firms across their ten different regions of the United States. The ENR Southeast region includes Alabama, the Carolinas, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee and Puerto Rico. The publication covers top design firms, both architects and engineers, as well as projects in the United States and worldwide.
In 2023, GMC grew in revenue by more than 30% from the previous year through high-profile projects and successful collaborations. The firm acquired two design firms, Walker Concepts Architecture of Charleston, South Carolina and Commercial Site Solutions of Greenville, South Carolina and Lutz, Florida, which bolstered its expertise and expanded its footprint with an additional office in Florida.
With 25 offices in seven states throughout the Southeast along with a wide array of services and an extensive portfolio, GMC has grown to be a leading firm in the region that keeps deep roots in the communities it serves. As referenced by the publication, the firm notably exceeds in “thinking locally while succeeding regionally,” emphasizing the team’s strength of providing service at a local level through valuing relationships.
“When you can combine strong local personal relationships with high technical expertise, we call that our superpower,” GMC CEO Jeffrey Brewer said.
The firm is involved in several notable projects throughout the Southeast. The firm has worked on notable projects throughout Georgia including Fayetteville City Hall and City Center Park, Chamblee City Hall and Fulton County Camp Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant. Recognizable ongoing projects in the state include UGA Softball Complex improvements, the new middle and high schools at Sequoyah for DeKalb County Public Schools, SGMC Women and Infants Tower, the StandardAero hangar expansion at Augusta Regional Airport, the City of Commerce Wastewater Treatment Plant and Glynn County Coast Guard Beach Park improvements, among others. In addition, the firm recently announced the recent acquisition of Southland Engineering in Cartersville.
The Firm of the Year recognition is released in tandem with ENR Southeast’s Top Design Firms list, an annual ranking of firms by revenue in states within that region. GMC rose two spots to #14. In addition, the firm was ranked on market sector-specific lists, including #1 Top Alabama Design Firms, #21 Top Georgia Design Firms and #4 Top Education Design Firms.
