With states opening up and the national unemployment rate now at 13.3% compared to the nearly historic high of 14.7% at the peak of the coronavirus pandemic, WalletHub released its report on the States Whose Unemployment Rates Are Bouncing Back Most, along with accompanying videos and audio files, to illustrate which areas of the country have had the best recovery so far.
This report examines unemployment rates on a monthly basis, complementing the weekly analysis in WalletHub’s report on the States Whose Unemployment Claims Are Recovering the Quickest.
In order to identify the states with the best recovery in unemployment rates, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia based on four key metrics. We looked at the change in each state’s unemployment rate during the latest month for which we have data (May 2020) compared to May 2019 and January 2020. We also compared not seasonally adjusted continued claims in May 2020 to May 2019. Finally, we considered each state’s overall unemployment rate. Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms’ FY21 budget was adopted by the Atlanta City Council. The Mayor’s budget continues to increase equity across communities, expand opportunities to address the needs of our most vulnerable residents, and provide relief and recovery assistance to those affected by the pandemic.
“As cities across the nation face challenges posed by the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Atlanta’s FY21 budget reflects our Administration’s priority of equity investments in our communities,” said Mayor Bottoms. “Thank you to our City Council and every City department for your hard work to ensure that Atlanta remains resilient in the years ahead.”
The FY21 budget continues to build on the Mayor’s equity agenda by:
-
Reprograming resources from the City jail to expand community-based services
-
Expanding the pretrial diversion program citywide to reduce incarceration and increase equity and opportunities
-
Increasing funding for Citizens Review Board
-
Increasing funding for the independent Office of Inspector General
-
Establishing an Equitable Growth Grant to increase middle-wage jobs in the City of Atlanta
-
Maintaining a balanced budget with no tax increase or layoffs
The FY21 budget builds on Mayor Bottoms’ Vision for One Atlanta—an affordable, resilient, and equitable Atlanta; a safe and welcoming city; a city with world-class employees, infrastructure, and services; an ethical, transparent, and fiscally responsible government; thriving neighborhoods, communities and businesses; and residents who are equipped for success.
Porsche Cars North America has appointed Frank Wiesmann as Manager, Product Communications.
In his new role, Wiesmann will oversee all product, motorsport and brand heritage focused communications for Porsche in the United States, and report directly to Angus Fitton, Vice-President of Public Relations.
Wiesmann previously held the position of Product Spokesperson for the 911 and 718 model lines since September 2014, which he will continue to support until a successor is determined. Supporting him on the product communications team at PCNA are Luke Vandezande, Spokesperson for Cayenne, Panamera and Macan, and Calvin Kim, Spokesperson for Taycan.
In a former life, Wiesmann was an automotive journalist – experience he now uses to better guide the service he provides to the media. An enthusiast and at his happiest in a press garage or tinkering at the track, Wiesmann’s appointment is effective immediately.
Frank Wiesmann’s predecessor, Andrew Lennon, after two years in which he made an enormous difference within the PR team, is happily not going far. He’s remaining at Porsche Cars North America having accepted a new role working within the High Voltage team in the After Sales department, specifically focusing on the Taycan model line – a role in which he’s already thriving.
Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms announced applications are now open for the creATL Relief Fund to support Atlanta’s independent creative workers affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Eligible applicants may receive $1,000 each to support essential financial obligations such as food, housing, utilities, medical expenses, and transportation costs affected by project cancellations and other pandemic-related disruptions.
“We are extremely fortunate to be a city filled with so many entertainment and creative professionals who add to the rich history of Atlanta,” said Mayor Bottoms. “The creATL program is an investment in our creative community during these challenging times. This program will help ensure Atlanta continues to be a sought-after global destination for talented people in music, art, design and many other creative fields.”
Launched through a public-private collaboration between the Mayor’s Office of Film and Entertainment, the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs, the Mayor’s Office of City Planning, Invest Atlanta, and City National Bank, the fund was initially capitalized by donations from these entities and other local leaders in the industry. The fund also received additional donations through a fundraising campaign to increase resources made available to independent creatives. Grant funds will be awarded in accordance with a scoring system.
Atlanta residents who work in the creative industry are eligible to apply for the creATL Relief Fund. To receive a grant, applicants must be part of the creative industry workforce—including film, television, media, music, eSports, and digital entertainment—and live and operate within the city of Atlanta. Applicants must be able to demonstrate loss of job opportunities, contracts, freelance or other work in the creative or entertainment industry as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the impact on their ability to cover living expenses and basic financial needs.
Artists, creative entrepreneurs and entertainment professionals generate an estimated $62.5 billion in economic impact each year in the State of Georgia and represent 5 percent of all employment and 4 percent of all business revenue in the state.
Applications are open from June 19, 2020 at 8:00 a.m. to July 3, 2020 at 9:00 p.m. Grant awards are subject to the conditions of the program. All eligibility requirements and application information are available on Invest Atlanta’s website at www.investatlanta.com/
