Apartments for Rent in Atlanta Are the 5th Most Sought-After in the U.S.

With the peak moving season well behind us, some cities attract more renters than ever, proving their year-round appeal. This month’s Rental Activity Report highlights these resilient markets, with Atlanta holding strong in the top 5, for the 10th month in a row.
Here are the details:
  • Throughout 2024, Atlanta has not left the top 5 most sought-after cities by renters, peaking at #2 four times in February, May, June and August.

  • During the off-season for renting, people take more time to make decisions as they look for the best winter deals. However, despite the 62% year-over-year decrease in listings added to favorites, apartments in Atlanta remain among the most searched for in the country.

  • Similarly, rates for Atlanta listing views and saved searches remained among the highest. Continued strong demand is also evidenced by the mere 1.9% increase in available apartments.

  • As such, the city continues to attract interest from locals — as well as from renters based in large hubs like New York City, Miami and Chicago, who are likely in search of more affordable housing options.

Following a steady climb since the start of the year, Washington, D.C., has dethroned Detroit as the most sought-after city for renters in search of apartments on RentCafe.com. Minneapolis is now the runner-up, followed by Cleveland, which jumped two spots since last month. Detroit comes in fourth after dropping three positions month-over-month, while Atlanta is now in fifth place after sliding one spot.

These are the cities that are drawing the most attention on RentCafe.com as renters save searches and add listings to their favorites in a rental market with increasingly limited availability.
