New Atlanta Gas Light Infrastructure Project Enhances Safety and Reliability in Buckhead Growth Corridor

Atlanta Gas Light is inviting those living and working in the Buckhead area to participate in a virtual community meeting ahead of the launch of the Piedmont Enhancement Project, the company’s latest initiative designed to strengthen the safety, reliability and resiliency of its infrastructure. During the June 30 meeting, Atlanta Gas Light will provide community members with an overview of the project and the opportunity to raise questions directly to project organizers.

“We are committed to providing our customers service they can depend on,” said Tiffany Callaway-Ferrell, vice president of operations for Atlanta Gas Light, which maintains natural gas infrastructure across Georgia, regardless of who customers purchase natural gas from. “Every year for the past five years we have added, on average, one-thousand new meters along the Piedmont Enhancement Project’s route. The work we begin in July to expand and enhance our system will not only enable us to continue to safely meet this commitment, but also help ensure the community can continue to grow and prosper in the years to come.”

During the project, which launches July 6, Atlanta Gas Light will install new natural gas mains, replace some exiting mains, and add a regulator station. This work will be completed in several phases over the course of two years. The community can expect impacts to traffic, limited disruptions to natural gas service and noise from machinery. However, the company will provide advance notice about these activities.

“We will take great care to minimize inconveniences to property owners and community members along the project route while keeping safety a top priority,” said Callaway-Ferrell. “We appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation as we work to meet its growing needs.”

To maintain the safety of pedestrians and drivers, as well as employees and contractors working primarily below the street surface, Atlanta Gas Light is coordinating with the Georgia Department of Transportation to implement lane closures along the project route. Closures will be conducted in phases, the first of which will begin July 6.

This includes:

  • Pelham Road to Squire Place

  • Morosgo Drive to Alpine Road

  • East Paces Ferry Road from Piedmont Road to Peachtree Road

Community members interested in learning more about the project and how it will enable Atlanta Gas Light to meet its commitments to the city may join the company’s virtual community meeting June 30 at 5 p.m.

Attendees are encouraged to RSVP here.
