First Georgia Archives’ Georgia History Course Completed – Registration for the Second Course now Open

Students Andrew and Daniel Bramlett completed the 2020-2021 Georgia history course at the Georgia Archives on June 3. This was the first Georgia history course offered at the Georgia Archives. Both Andrew and Daniel received a certificate of completion for attending every class. Registration is now open for the 2021-2022 course. Contact Penny Cliff at Penelope.cliff@usg.edu for more information and registration.

The course is a combination of lecture, PowerPoint, discussion, short videos, and examination of facsimiles of documents housed at the Georgia Archives. Visits to the Original Documents Reading Area (ODRA) are offered after certain classes at the end of the second half of the class.

The monthly Georgia history course is taught at the Georgia Archives for grades 8 through 12. Siblings in grades 6 and 7 may also attend if accompanied by an adult. Classes are held on the first Thursday of the month from 10:00 a.m. until noon in the downstairs classroom with a break for lunch and then from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The course FY 2021-2022 will begin on August 5, 2021, and end on May 5, 2022.

The course will begin with Georgia’s founding as a colony and end with post-World War II Georgia. In this course, students and family members will learn about the role that Georgia played in major historic statewide and national events.
