Mellow Mushroom Transforms its Online Ordering Technology; Visual Cues Make Ordering Simple, Faster and More Accurate

Mellow Mushroom and Olo have partnered to make it easier, faster and more enticing for guests to order online from Mellow Mushroom. The new online ordering system has already increased delivery and takeout sales and customer satisfaction.

The new online ordering platform uses more visual displays and showcases the core Mellow Mushroom menu of Munchies, Salads, Pizzas, Hoagies, and Desserts, as well as the company’s rich culture, including its art-centric restaurant design aesthetic. Previously, ordering online at Mellow Mushroom took a minimum of 16 keystrokes. On the new platform guests can complete an order in as few as four keystrokes.

“Now more than ever before guests are looking for a frictionless experience when placing restaurant orders online,” said Anne Mejia, Vice President Brand Development. “We designed a system that is more visual and intuitive, making the ordering process faster and easier to navigate. We are already seeing results in the first three months since we launched the new platform including doubling the number of mobile orders and improved customer satisfaction scores.”

In addition, Mellow Mushroom is taking its higher order of pizza and its in-store psychedelic dining experience and turning it into an advertising campaign and sweepstakes, the Art of Mellow, where every guest who orders online is eligible to enter a sweepstakes, or enter separately with no purchase, to win a piece of signature art commissioned exclusively for the Art of Mellow campaign from 140 contemporary artists.

Each sweepstakes entry generates a text with an original Mellow Mushroom digital art file that is perfect for Zoom backgrounds, Instagram and Snapchat filters, wallpapers, and more. Each entrant is also entered into a sweepstakes to win physical art objects, including t-shirts, hoodies, stickers, coasters, limited edition prints, and other wearable and displayable art. The sweepstakes will run until January 3, 2021.

“Our online business has more than doubled since March.” said Anne Mejia, “however, we want to add some surprise and delight to the online ordering experience and the Art of Mellow sweepstakes does that in a very Mellow way.”

The new online ordering platform is one part of the Mellow Mushroom brand’s commitment to growing off premises sales. Other related initiatives over the past three years include: launch of a new catering program in 2018, partnering with ezCater in 2019, and upgraded packaging in February 2020.
