Great Gwinnett Wetlands Returns November 7th

When COVID-19 rocked the globe earlier this year, Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful (GC&B) and its partners at Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources (DWR) were primed and ready to host the 6th Annual Great Gwinnett Wetlands cleanup event on April 25. Out of an abundance of caution, the decision was made to postpone the event to later in the year. Marking a cleanup and education event designed to positively impact Gwinnett’s local waterways and wetlands, Great Gwinnett Wetlands has been rescheduled to Saturday, November 7 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. The event will be hosted at Bromolow Creek & Wetlands at Steve Reynolds Boulevard, near Beaver Ruin Road and volunteers are being actively sought to make sure the event is a big success.

“The GC&B team and our friends at DWR are thrilled to be able to finally host this event,” said Schelly Marlatt, Executive Director of Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful. “Great Gwinnett Wetlands is designed to grow awareness and promote the ongoing stewardship of Gwinnett’s wetlands and water resources. While a lot has changed in the world this year, the one thing that hasn’t is pollution. Wetlands serve as filters for streams, rivers and lakes, as well as habitats for local wildlife, so it’s vital that we protect them. Fortunately, our cleanup events are typically socially distanced naturally as everyone goes about the work of collecting litter, removing invasive plants and testing the water. All volunteers will be supplied with masks and gloves, and we’ve got our fingers crossed for good weather. There’s no reason why we can’t all have a good time in the Great Outdoors while doing good work on behalf of our community and environment.”

Volunteers are asked to arrive BEFORE 9 a.m. Specific meetup locations will be communicated to individual volunteers after they register. Closed toed shoes, clothes that they don’t mind getting dirty, a bottle of water and a snack to enjoy during breaks are highly recommended.
